Columbia City Troop 83 or as we are more commonly called, "The Troop Coop" has a long and proud history. Why the "Troop Coop"?
Troop 83 was founded in 1952 and has been in continuous operation since 1968. In the early 1980's we were blessed by a generous donation by the Kauffman family. The Kauffman family donated use of 5 acres of Laud, IN woodland to our troop. The land included a pond, plenty of great sites to camp, and a structure. As far as the structure.....you guessed it. A chicken coop! The boys got to work and the chicken coop was transformed into our permanent meeting place. With the building it has become you can easily forget its original use.
We continue to be blessed by the Kauffman family's unwavering support as well as our charter organizations, Saturn Christian Church and Saint Catherine Church. For their support we are grateful.
We are an active troop. We camp somewhere each month throughout northern Indiana including on our very own grounds. We have produced over 30 Eagle Scouts. The Coop proudly displays scores of awards earned in fierce yet friendly competition with our neighboring troops. Come visit on Monday evenings and see for yourself!
